Precast Concrete: The ideal material for stand-alone ATM buildings
Dow Chemical Employees’ Credit Union in Midland, Mich., boasts 70,000 members and $1.95 billion in assets. It has grown vastly since starting in 1937 by serving its members and staying current with banking technology and customer service trends. DCECU recently needed to upgrade five ATMs, but the new ATM machines were larger than the previous versions and did not fit in the existing buildings. New ATM structures were required, and the credit union turned to Kalamazoo, Michigan based Quality Precast Inc., an Easi-Set Buildings licensed producer, for pre-engineered precast concrete buildings. They were chosen for their cost, speed of installation and durability when compared with other building methods.
“Precast concrete buildings offer the banking industry customized, strong and secure structures that can be delivered and installed at the site quickly for a competitive price,” says Josh Schierbeek, sales manager with Quality Precast. “Factory produced buildings, manufactured and assembled in a controlled environment, ensure quality, eliminate errors and improve project schedules.”
Each of the five Easi-Set Buildings measure 7'-2" x 6'-0" x 8'-0" and have a stained brick face finish. The precast concrete buildings are anchored to cast-in-place floors for security purposes. The precast concrete buildings were cast, assembled, delivered and installed by Quality Precast over the summer, with each installation taking just a portion of one day.
The previous buildings used a mix of construction materials, and they ranged from four to 14 years old. “We switched our ATM buildings to precast concrete over five years ago and have found that they are more energy efficient, more secure and provide more room to work on the ATM,” says Danielle Merillat, ATM and debit product analyst with DCECU.
